Terms of Service
Last updated: August 22, 2026
Who we are, and what this is
TapTrust is operated by Cosmic Ventures LLC. It is a public directory and transparency platform for drinking-water utilities. We are not a water utility, we are not a government agency, and we are not affiliated with the utilities listed unless a page says so. By using TapTrust you agree to these terms.
Not an emergency service
Do not rely on TapTrust for emergency or safety-critical information. If there is a boil-water advisory, a contamination event, or any urgent problem with your water, your utility’s own notifications and your local authorities are the official record. Alerts here may be delayed, incomplete, or unavailable. If you believe your water is unsafe, contact your utility or emergency services directly.
Where our information comes from
Most utility profiles are built from public data published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Safe Drinking Water Information System, plus information utilities provide themselves. Public records can be out of date or incorrect, and we do not independently test water. Water-quality figures shown here are reported data, not our own measurements. For the authoritative Consumer Confidence Report, ask the utility — they are required to produce one each year.
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for activity under your account. Give us accurate information, and keep your email address current so alerts you asked for can reach you. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
Feedback you submit
Feedback must describe your genuine experience. Do not submit anything false, defamatory, harassing, or containing another person’s private information. Your feedback is shared with the utility it concerns; profile pages show only aggregate ratings, not your individual comment. We may remove feedback that breaks these terms, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time.
Claiming a utility
To claim a utility profile you must be authorised to represent that utility. Claims are reviewed before they are approved. Once claimed, you are responsible for the accuracy of what you publish — alerts, reports and profile details — and for making sure it does not contradict notices you are legally required to issue. We may revoke a claim we believe to be unauthorised or misused.
Paid plans and billing
Utilities may subscribe to a paid plan. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not handle card details. Terms:
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the billing period you chose until cancelled.
- Cancel at any time — your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for, and is not pro-rated.
- Prices may change, and we will give notice before a change affects a renewal.
- If a payment fails we may suspend paid features until it is resolved.
- Free trials, where offered, convert to a paid subscription unless cancelled first.
Website embeds
Paid plans include embeddable widgets you may place on your utility’s own website. You may not modify the embed’s content or remove its attribution. If your subscription lapses, the water-quality embed continues to work as a link to your report rather than going blank — we will not pull water-quality information off your site to apply billing pressure. We may change or discontinue an embed with reasonable notice.
Acceptable use
Do not:
- Scrape or bulk-copy the site beyond what our robots.txt permits.
- Attempt to access accounts, data or systems you are not authorised to use.
- Impersonate a utility, a public official, or another person.
- Interfere with the service’s operation or security.
- Use TapTrust to mislead the public about drinking-water safety.
Our content and yours
The TapTrust name, brand and software are ours. Underlying public records are not. You keep ownership of what you submit, and grant us the licence needed to operate the service — including displaying utility-published content publicly and sharing resident feedback with the utility concerned.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep TapTrust available but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may change, suspend or discontinue features. Where a change materially reduces something you pay for, we will give notice.
Disclaimers and liability
TapTrust is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, including that information here is accurate, complete or current. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for decisions made in reliance on information found here. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Ending your use
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for a breach of these terms, or where we are required to. Paid plans end as described under billing.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version, and we will notify account holders of material changes. Continuing to use TapTrust after a change means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the state in which Cosmic Ventures LLC is organised, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be brought in the courts of that state.
